South Korea Invests in Mongolia’s Cultural Preservation for Economic Growth

Date:

In an effort to bolster Mongolia’s cultural heritage conservation capabilities, South Korea has launched a higher education cooperation program focused on cultivating future experts in this field. This initiative has led to significant developments at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, where newly established facilities for conservation and digital documentation were recently evaluated by officials from both nations.

The driving force behind this collaboration is Kongju National University, which has been at the forefront of the project since 2020. One of the major achievements of this partnership is the creation of Mongolia’s inaugural Department of Tangible Cultural Heritage Conservation Technology. The initiative’s scope includes several key components such as curriculum development, enhancing laboratory facilities, training faculty members, and generating educational materials in the Mongolian language.

A critical aspect of South Korea’s support is its emphasis on transitioning towards locally led education. By focusing on the professional development of Mongolian faculty, the program aims to ensure sustainability. This strategic move is designed to empower local educators, enabling them to independently manage and further develop the program over time.

Additionally, the cooperation is seen as a stepping stone for broader educational collaboration between South Korea and Mongolia in the years to come. By fostering an environment where expertise can be shared and developed locally, both countries are laying the groundwork for a sustained partnership that could expand beyond the realm of cultural heritage conservation.
