South Korea’s women’s national football team has achieved a significant milestone by climbing to 17th place in the latest FIFA world rankings. This is the team’s highest ranking in over three years, a feat achieved following their commendable performance at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where they secured a bronze medal.
The team’s ascent in the rankings saw them move up two spots from their previous position, marking a return to 17th place for the first time since June 2023. Within the Asian continent, South Korea ranks fourth, trailing behind Japan, North Korea, and Australia. Notably, China has slipped to 18th place, just behind South Korea.
South Korea’s journey to the bronze medal at the Asian Games involved a challenging semifinal against Japan, where they were defeated 2-0. However, they bounced back to claim third place by defeating China 1-0. This victory was particularly significant as it marked their first Asian Games bronze in eight years and their first win over China in 11 years.
Globally, Spain continues to hold the top spot in the FIFA women’s rankings, followed closely by the United States, Germany, England, and Japan. FIFA is set to release its final women’s world rankings for the year on December 7.
