LG Innotek has embarked on a collaboration with Japan’s TDK to innovate advanced vision and tactile sensing modules, designed specifically for robotics and physical AI applications. This partnership sees the merging of LG Innotek’s optical and precision engineering prowess with TDK’s cutting-edge sensor technologies, marking a significant venture into the future of robotic sensory capabilities.
The initial product from this collaboration, a vision sensing module equipped with an inertial sensor, is slated for release in 2027. This sophisticated system intends to integrate visual, motion, direction, and audio data, enhancing robots’ ability to interpret and interact with their environment. Additionally, the module aims to minimize image distortion that often occurs due to movement, promising more accurate and reliable robotic vision.
In tandem with this, the companies are also working on a tactile sensing module that mirrors the functionality of human skin. This technology will enable robots to perceive touch and pressure across various parts of their anatomy, including hands, arms, and bodies. The development of this tactile module aligns with the same timeline as the vision sensing module, with both expected to be completed by 2027.
According to LG Innotek, this strategic alliance will bolster its standing within the burgeoning robotics market. By broadening its portfolio of AI sensing technologies—encompassing cameras, lidar, radar, and tactile sensors—the company is set to enhance its competitive edge and drive innovation in robotic sensory solutions.
