In a recent visit to Silicon Valley, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung emphasized the nation’s prowess in technology and manufacturing, urging leading US venture capital firms to collaborate in fostering the next wave of global tech companies. Lee underscored South Korea’s strong digital infrastructure, highly skilled workforce, and rapid execution as key attractions for investors. He assured the firms of governmental support through initiatives such as visa reforms for foreign specialists, enhanced partnerships between businesses and research institutions, and increased financial aid for startups.
The South Korean leader’s itinerary included a significant development: the National Pension Service of South Korea entered into a memorandum of understanding with six major US venture capital companies. This agreement aims to boost investment cooperation and fortify the ties with South Korea’s burgeoning startup sector, signaling a mutual interest in expanding economic collaboration.
During his visit, Lee also took the opportunity to engage with overseas Koreans and prominent figures in the tech industry. He held discussions with senior executives from major corporations, including Samsung, SK Group, Hyundai, Nvidia, OpenAI, Broadcom, and Anthropic, underscoring the importance of maintaining strong connections with influential tech leaders.
President Lee’s trip forms part of a broader international tour designed to enhance economic and strategic relationships. Following his engagements in Silicon Valley, he continued his journey to Brazil, where further discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral partnerships were scheduled.
