In the wake of heightened tensions between Russia and European NATO members, President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russia is not preparing for any conflict with Europe. He dismissed concerns from some NATO countries that Moscow could pose a threat to the alliance’s territory, asserting that there is no intention to escalate tensions with European nations.
Putin’s comments come amid ongoing Russian military activity in Ukraine, which has resulted in significant casualties and infrastructure damage. A recent airstrike in Kyiv claimed seven lives, including that of a 14-year-old boy, and injured dozens more. This intensifies the already dire situation as Russia’s attacks continue to impact civilian areas and industrial sites.
Further compounding Ukraine’s challenges, ArcelorMittal has announced the suspension of operations at its largest steel plant in the country. The decision follows repeated Russian strikes that have damaged the facility and resulted in worker fatalities, thereby adding to the economic strain experienced by Ukraine during the conflict.
Amidst these developments, Putin mentioned that Russia is contemplating whether to resume peace talks with Ukraine. He emphasized that Moscow would thoroughly evaluate its options before making a decision on re-engaging in negotiations, following recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian soil.
