PM Kim Urges Efforts to Host an “Unrivaled” APEC Summit in Gyeongju

Date:

Prime Minister Kim Min-seok on Tuesday called for making this week’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit an “unrivaled” event that reflects the nation’s growing international stature. His remarks came during a Cabinet meeting, one day after the 21 APEC member economies began their sessions in the southeastern city of Gyeongju.
Kim emphasized that the summit should serve as both a platform for global economic cooperation and a meaningful opportunity for cultural exchange. He said the event could mark a pivotal moment in shaping a new framework for international trade and collaboration across the Asia-Pacific region.
“I hope the people will come together to create an APEC that goes down in history, through their civic awareness and support that reflect our global standing,” Kim stated.
The prime minister also directed government ministries to focus on post-summit strategies, particularly by promoting tourism beyond the capital region, aiming to boost local economies and showcase the country’s regional diversity to international visitors.
