TOKYO – Get ready, Hakone fans—Hotel Okura is opening its first-ever resort in Japan right in the heart of hot spring paradise: Hakone Gora. The new Okura Resort Hakone Gora is set to welcome guests in 2029.
The project is being developed together with Nishimatsu Construction, which signed an agreement with Hotel Okura back in 2025. They’ll build and own the property, while Hotel Okura will manage the resort.
Hakone already attracts almost 20 million visitors a year, thanks to its relaxing hot springs, beautiful mountain views, and strong cultural charm. Hotel Okura says it selected Hakone because of its unique natural and historical appeal. “This is one of Japan’s most special destinations,” noted company president Toshihiro Ogita.
The resort will showcase a warm and calming “Forest Hideaway” design by designer Gwenael Nicolas. Every one of the 58 rooms will include a private open-air bath with real hot spring water from Owakudani. Guests will also enjoy indoor baths, saunas, a teppanyaki restaurant, and a modern bar lounge.
2029 will bring travelers a new reason to experience Hakone’s beauty—with Hotel Okura’s signature hospitality at the center.
